Why everyone should learn the piano?

Every house used to have a piano. Every pub used to have a piano. Piano was used to entertain: for solos, for piano duets, to accompany other instruments and most often to bash out the chords whilst everyone sang along. People had piano lessons but people also taught themselves. In this concert, Yshani Perinpanayagam and Kids’ Concert Company founder Holly Cullen-Davies with their broad range of expertise will celebrate the piano and all of its uses ranging from serious classical repertoire to improvising on the spot based on songs of your choice. If your child is having piano lessons but you sometimes wonder where it is all leading this is the place to find out more.
Yshani is pianist of the Del Mar Piano Trio and company pianist of Rambert Dance Company where she is currently Music Director for Ben Duke’s Goat.  She was Music Director for circus troupe Circa at the Barbican and Assistant Music Director for the Royal Opera House west end transfer of Wind in the Willows, featuring CHROMA ensemble. She also performs with Olivier award winning show Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. Yshani was winner of the 10th Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Award.

Holly Cullen-Davies started doing concerts for children with the Wigmore Hall Chamber Tots series. She went on to run children’s concerts at The Little Missenden festival and Hebden Bridge piano Festival. She founded the Kids’ Concert Company in 2017. You can see her talking about it
